NOX BELLAIRE

//00 PROLOGUE

I work in the dark,

until ideas form constellations.

Nox Bellaire — multi-disciplinary designer between identity, editorial, product, type and wayfinding. The atlas below is five works, each plotted as a constellation. Scroll to fly between them.

ATELIER · EST. MMXX 5 CONSTELLATIONS PARIS · BERLIN · TOKYO

//I AETHERION · MMXXIV · IDENTITY

The Æ ligature

held aloft by nine stars.

A monogram identity for an ambient electronics atelier. We plotted the Æ ligature as a sky-chart, then redrew it as a foil-stamped folio. Nine stars, one mark.

//II LUMIÈRE MAISON · MMXXIII · EDITORIAL

A lantern,

spelled in ten stars.

Editorial system for a journal of light architecture. The masthead is a constellation of ten; the cover grid is its shadow on the page.

//III GLASSWING · MMXXII · PRODUCT

Twelve stars,

a butterfly in glass.

Packaging system for a Tokyo perfumery. Each bottle refracts the room into a wing-shape; the constellation is the brand-mark behind the diffusion.

//IV CANTOS ATELIER · MMXXI · TYPE

A serif A,

drawn from eight stars.

Display family commissioned by a Berlin writers' union for chapter openings. Each capital begins as a constellation, then settles into ink.

//V NORVALLIS RAIL · MMXX · WAYFINDING

Eleven stars,

a compass for the lost.

Wayfinding for a Stockholm rail terminal that must read identically in twenty languages. The constellation became the symbol — north was always overhead.

//VI ABOUT THE ATELIER

An atelier, quiet,

working under stars.

Nox Bellaire is a designer of five disciplines and one method: hold the brief in the dark long enough for its parts to become visible as a single figure. Then draw the figure. Trained at l'École Estienne (Paris). Worked through Berlin, Tokyo, Lisbon, Stockholm. Returns to Paris between commissions.

  • i. Identity, editorial, product, type, wayfinding
  • ii. Two commissions a year, no more
  • iii. Each project documented as a folio
  • iv. Studio runs on starlight and slow espresso

//VII CONTACT THE OBSERVER

Two commissions a year.

Write into the dark.

If your brief reaches before the next equinox, we'll plot it. Otherwise, the stars wait.
